Ecology
[edit]Stereocaulon alpinum is a known host species to lichenicolous fungi, which are pathogenic or commensal species living on the surface or in the thallus of the lichen. These include:

- Diploschistes muscorum[3]
- Endococcus nanellus[3]

- Lichenopeltella stereocaulorum[3]
- Lichenosticta dombrovskae[3]
- Merismatum decolorans[3]
- Opegrapha stereocaulicola[3]
- Polycoccum trypethelioides[5][3]
- Rhymbocarpus stereocaulorum[3]
- Scutula stereocaulorum[6][7][5][8]
